I was appalled by the Read it and Sleep article I found on Digg today because I know I have seen a lot better alarm clocks recently than anything on that list. Here are my top ten alarm clocks.

I am going to start with the runner up. I just love all the stuff that have been put into old Nintendo cases and this is no exception

The ingenious thing about this clock is not the translucent housing. It is the fact that a teddy bear acts as a snooze remote. If you need another 5 minutes you just squeeze the bear.

This clock doesn’t actually tell you the time. Instead it tells you how many hours of sleep you need. You set it by holding it at a 45 degree angle. So when you wake up you need to look at the dots left, not numbers.

The best part of waking up is folgers in your clock. Sometimes this seems like a prank more than an alarm. Either way the aroma waker is just one step closer to smellable internet.

I am one of those people who keeps a glass of water next to my bed and this would just be amusing, until I had to wake up every time the alarm went off to go to the bathroom. I do wonder what happens if the glass doesnt make it back to the little stand. Maybe the whole night stand should be the alarm clock and you just need to set the glass down. Either way the Analog awakening seems like a very interesting idea.

    6

Great idea but annoying as hell. This is about as practical as morning classes. Although it would be cool to be able to put a puzzle together in your sleep.

    5

The Japanese just have all the best ideas. The pillow doesn’t just inflate to get you out of bed. It inflates and deflates every seven seconds. I don’t think anyone could sleep through that.

    4

Wakes you up when your ready to wake up. The sweet band looking thing monitors your movement so that the alarm can wake you up at just the right moment. If rewired you could also probably have it go off just at the wrong moment. I think if i was able to sleep with my arm constantly moving I could trick it to let me sleep late every day.

    3

If the sfera had a reading light in it too it would be the coolest thing. For now it just makes you reach higher and higher every time you hit snooze. For me it would probably have to get out of pillow reach before I woke up. I am still not sure what the name is all about though.

    2

Clocky is really what started it all. This clock randomly rolls around your floor after you hit snooze. Some students at MIT thought up this ingenious idea. It looks like it would become prey to the first dog that spotted it rolling around the floor.

The Blowfly is like a mix between clocky and the sfera. Not only does it move but it makes you reach to get it. I can just see every cat attacking this alarm clock the first time it goes off.
