This box is much better than the boxee box at its release, and look how far they have come with that (until they suddenly stopped). I am sad that it is likely there will never be Amazon VOD or Hulu plus (Competitors to Vudu, a Walmart owned company), but I have a bit of faith. It is still the cheapest stand alone box that has netflix and a DVR wrapped into one nice little package.

I’ve been getting by with a Samsung tuner for many years but it’s seriously lacking in many respects.Even if the Boxee TV serves that purpose alone, I’ll feel I got my money’s worth.

I wasn’t impressed with D-Link going with an IR remote instead of the QWERTY radio remote of the Boxee Box. At first I though I was having remote problems until I read “point remote at device”(?). I’m not use to pointing a remote at equipment since I’ve had a home automation system installed which uses radio remotes years ago.

I didn’t have issues during setup, but it would be better if the setup could be done completely from the device.

Since I usually use Hulu for my TV program viewing this box will allow me to record some shows and not have to wait for usual Hulu availability delay, I’ll continue to use my BoxeeTV. As it is now the BoxeeTV ISN’T a replacement for my Boxee Boxes without having more apps and network media playback.

-You can’t power it down without turning off the power. There is also no sleep mode. My unit also gets very hot. This to me means that it is wasting a lot of electricity.

-Cloud DVR playback was very choppy. I have a 20Mbs Time Warner Cable connection and the video playback was very bad. I couldn’t watch a show for more then 10 seconds without some kind of stuttering or buffering issues. The Netflix app on the Boxee TV did not have this issue. Also the quality wasn’t very good. It was noticeably worse than the live HD feed.

-I could not pause live TV.

I’m back on my Windows 7 MCE HTPC

Well… you are a bit more positive than I am, but I don’t disagree with you. I am a Boxee loyalist and I’m holding back my negative reviews… for now. My unit was free, so they have at least earned my patience. But their credits are expiring rapidly… all the more whenever I decide to give that hot box from hell under my TV “one more try”.

You are right, it gets super hot too. I’m not surprised though based on the size, TV Tuners always produce a fair bit of heat. The tuner is indeed super quick, I was impressed. In fact all the apps are impressive in their speed relative to competition. I’m returning it though because without networked media indexing and playback this thing is worthless to me. I have been waiting for a better BoxeeBox but I guess I need to find an HTPC that handles Netflix in HD.
