Even if it’s not all exactly the same, Firefox being on Geko feels a bit like Windows compared to the rest of the *nix OSs. It works fine, but feels a bit strange to leave familiar waters.

I guess it’s still good in the long run because it gives competition that may not exist otherwise.

They switched to their own rendering engine called Blink. So while the differences are still minimal, webkit probably won’t end up as the universal standard.

I think the grand old dream of “write once, run everywhere” will never be true. We should try to have good standards on things that everyone seems to agree on, but complete and totally unanimous platforms is never going to happen.
