Because this machine was custom built I had to name it something. And because this is the most powerful HTPC I have built I thought I would name it after a powerful dude. So here are the specs on the machine first and foremost.
Case: Silverstone LC13-B
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 Ghz
Ram: 2 GB DDR2
Video Card: Nvidia 9500 GT 512 MB PCIe
Hard drive(s): 160 GB system drive, 250 GB media drive
Capture card(s): 1 HDHomerun, 1 HD-PVR
Remote: StreamZap PC Remote
Other: Battery backup, Motorola DCH-3200 STB
Operating System: Mythbuntu 9.10 x64, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (but I have only booted into it once).
Software: MythTV 0.22 (Planned to include XBMC, Boxee?, Hulu Desktop)
Installation:
Installation was easy.
Had to mount my second hard drive to /var/lib/mythtv created necessary folders manually for LiveTV, recordings, fanart, etc.
Mounted NAS to ~/Music, ~/Pictures, ~/TV, ~/Movies, ~/Videos
Had to install Mythchanger to get firewire channel changer working.
Usage:
Fast machine but sometimes loud. Volume levels between tuners is drastically different and sound card is not “properly” detected (using /dev/dsp as sound device). I need a new remote to get all of the button options but so far have been able to do everything cause my laptop is close by.
I sometimes get weird issues when jumping channels a lot with the HD-PVR but I am trying to get out of the habit of watching live TV.
Notes:
Need to try newest Nvidia driver (190) cause deinterlacing is supposed to be better.
Need to create user jobs for moving recordings to NAS
Solved Problems:
1. Static IP address for HDHR
2. Firewire blaster (Mythchanger)
Outstanding Problems:
1. Cannot transcode HD-PVR recordings
2. Cannot access MythWeb via WAN
3. Playback on HD-PVR occasionally stops and goes back to the menu
4. Guide information needs to be updated
5. Second HDHR tuner does not tune all channels (bad coax cable?)
